You can’t beat fall.  Football is what ushers it in for me every year.  There is a giddiness among the gentleman in our home.  Last Saturday was our 2nd time to watch the Hogs play this season.  I still don’t know all of the rules, and it doesn’t do a whole lot for me, but I love it because watching it involves our family together and usually Gusano’s.  And, I have recently found myself watching “Being Bret Bielema” (football coach for Arkansas).   I can’t help but like the guy.

Last Saturday was the best game I have ever watched them play, and believe me, I’ve watched a lot.  In fact, back in 2000, when I was very pregnant with Sam, I passed out in the stands at the Auburn game due to heat exhaustion.  I am the most dedicated uninterested fan they have.

Usually, somehow, they mess up games at the end.  Then, I have to listen to our son act like a raving lunatic.  The whole scene starts out great and doesn’t finish well.  As I watched them play, I was just waiting for them to have their usual mess up and throw the game away.  NOT this time!!

They were in their 2nd overtime, SECOND overtime.  It was crazy.  The winning touchdown was made by the quarterback, Austin Allen.  It was the way he made it that inspired me.  They were so close to the goal line.  His teammates literally pushed him through the opposing team.  He would not have stood a chance on his own.  His teammates made sure the touchdown happened.  I was in awe.  I was overwhelmed.

It struck me, like a linebacker, that is what I want to be.  I want to be a teammate and friend that will push you over the line.  I want to help you through the struggle and the battles to win.  I want to see you succeed and make the winning touchdown.

That is why God has put us on this planet.  He is all about the relationships.  When our relationship with Him is where it needs to be, then we can reach out to each other to encourage and equip.  Be that friend today.  We all have someone in our life that needs a push over that line.  It might be a note, phone call or text.  It might be a plate of chocolate chip cookies.  I challenge you to find one person today that you can push over the goal line.  Woo Pig!!
