Ahh…. the New Year!  Christmas is my favorite time of the year, but when it’s done – it’s done.  Maybe some of you have some resolutions for your home.  I have a project for you that’s perfect to kick off the new year.

My friend, Amy Brake, came home with the most beautiful sign for her bedroom.  I LOVED it!  As soon as I saw it, I immediately began to try and piece it apart in my mind, so I could piece it back together in real life.  I wanted to have one of my very own.  It was jealousy in a bad way.

You can’t have too many signs.  My house is a walking billboard.  From coffee mugs, to tea towels to pillows to prints, you can find an inspirational message in every room of our home.  Who doesn’t need to be encouraged or reminded?

So here goes.  You need to purchase a frame.  I purchased this one at Hobby Lobby with my 40% off coupon.  I then went to Lowe’s to have them cut down a piece of bead board.  I took in the frame, and the gentleman cut it down to size for me.  You have to buy the bead board in sheets.  So, I have extra bead board for more inspirational things to say (I can’t tell you how excited my family is about that).

I purchased stain at Lowe’s.  I have always painted, but have never stained.  It was the easiest thing in the world – pure fun.  Just take an old rag and rub on the stain following the grain of the wood.

I only put on one coat.  I let that dry.

Here comes options for you.  I could probably write my own inspirational quote, but it would not look anything like that of Amanda Savage with 36th St. Designs.  She has made several signs for me, and she is just plain awesome!!

I took the stained bead board to her, and poof she wrote my very own message.

I then brought the board back home and with a staple gun, stapled the edge of the frame to the edge of the bead board all the way around.  I also put the picture hanging set on the frame.  I then painted the frame, and distressed it just a bit with sand paper.  Looking back, I should have painted the frame first.  But, you know how you get so excited to see something, you just take off without thinking?  That’s what I did.
