I’m a dabbler.  If you are a dabbler, you know exactly what I’m talking about.  If you are not a dabbler,  you probably still know exactly what I’m talking about, but you are rolling your eyes a little.  This is how you know you are a dabbler:

1. You get pretty excited about almost anything.

2. Your friend could talk you into most any business adventure or diet.

3. It’s like a ping pong ball is going off all of the time in your mind.

4. Focus is not your specialty.

5. A challenge excites you instead of overwhelms you.

6. You can envision the final masterpiece, but the details to getting there are not your favorite.

7. The acquisition of whatever it is you are dabbling in at the moment is the driving force.  It’s simply the chase.

I have spent my life chasing after things because it is pure fun.  I’m married to a non-dabbler.  He is the one who has the focus and cares about the details.  Him and the Holy Spirit have probably saved me from disaster a million times.  I truly appreciate that about them.

The other day, Chris said to me, “Look at this Gwen, “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”  Luke 11:9.  I’ve heard that verse since I was 2.  I couldn’t figure out why it had just struck him now.  He said, “That’s what you do.  You keep asking, seeking and knocking.  You are going to find it.”

I had never looked at that verse in that light.  I always had it in my mind as part of salvation.  But it’s about God answering our prayers when we continually ask him.  It’s about bringing him into all the details in our lives and asking Him for discernment and wisdom.  The chapter encourages us to ask God boldly for what we want and waiting for His answer. Our asking, seeking, knocking is our journey through life.  It never stops.  There will always be that next prayer.

I’m good with that. When I’m in a relationship with Him, I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.  He maneuvers and utilizes the circumstances around me to do what will show His glory.  I can trust Him with that.

To the dabblers:  Enjoy the adventure that you are on, soak up the fun experiences, learn some hard lessons and enjoy some awesome people along the way.

To the non-dabblers:  Thank you.  Embrace it, and enjoy the ride!
