Christmas is my favorite.  It looks like it threw up in my house most years.  Every year we go get our tree at the tree farm the day before Thanksgiving.  They aren’t even open, but I call every year and they let us come early. We have it all to ourselves as we play hide and seek, load up the perfect Christmas tree and then go get a cheeseburger.  It is one of my favorite days of the year.

Most years I try to stay trendy with the decorating and add new things.  Not this year.  I don’t want to.  I started going through our ornaments because I decided I was going to clean out what we had.  I could only throw out three. What???  All of them had this tug on my heart (that’s not a long trip for me because I’m over the top sentimental).

We have an ornament from every place we have visited since our honeymoon. We have our first ornament from the first Christmas we were dating, our first Christmas ornaments we got for our wedding, first year baby ornaments, the homemade ornaments that the kids made at church, preschool and school…

It goes on and on.  As I was placing them on the tree today, I was overwhelmed by God’s faithfulness.  I placed them tenderly on the tree and thought about each one and the places we have been as a family spiritually, emotionally and physically.  I remember those little ornaments that the kids made 10 years ago. Oh, how I took them for granted.  Each one I pulled out today that had their handprint, picture or handwriting took my breath away.

How wonderful and gracious God is.  To think how He has cared for us and been with us through every happy moment, every scary experience, and every difficult circumstance from Christmas to Christmas.  I look at those ornaments and the future with peace in my heart. They are a sweet reminder that He will never leave our side.

And the government shall be upon His shoulder,
And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  Isaiah 9:6
